Julian Draxler out for the rest of the year

World Champion Julian Draxler (21) has been ruled out for the rest of the year and consequently won’t take to the field for Schalke 04 or Germany. “It’s a severe injury, we don’t know exactly what the situation is but he certainly won’t play again this year,” Sporting Director Horst Heldt told the Bild newspaper on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Germany international sustained the injury just seconds after kick-off in Schalke’s 1-0 victory against FC Augsburg. "It looks like he has injured either the tendons or ligaments in his right thigh," added Heldt.

Draxler will be unavailable in Schalke’s three remaining Champions League group games and for Germany’s two international fixtures in November: The EURO 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar (14th November in Nuremberg, 20:45 CET) and the prestigious friendly match with European Champions Spain in Vigo (18th November, 20:45 CET). Draxler has bagged two goals in eight league appearances for the Royal Blues so far this season.
