Johansson looking to stay on at UEFA

UEFA president Lennart Johansson announced on Tuesday in Berlin that he would seek a renewed mandate next year. The Swede faces a challenge from Frenchman Michel Platini.

"I feel I still have the necessary energy and engagement for a new mandate," Johannson, 76, said after a meeting of the UEFA executive committee. After 16 years in the role, the president had hinted that he was ready to stand aside.

"Many football colleagues have been speaking to me. I have held conversations with the UEFA Executive Committee, national association presidents and others who also care for UEFA and European football. I have listened carefully to what has been said, and have been encouraged by the shared sense of what should guide us going forward", Johansson said.
