Joachim Löw: "An exciting group"

World Cup winners Germany have been drawn against Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. DFB.de rounds up all the reaction from draw in Moscow.

MANUEL NEUER: We have been drawn against opponents that are by no means unknown. I prefer that when we know what to expect. They are all opponents that we need to take seriously, but our aim has to be topping the group. Mexico mainly play aggressive football. We can adjust well to Sweden. They beat Italy, so we definitely won’t be taking them lightly. Everyone knows that South Korea are strong. It’s an interesting group with opponents from three continents.

JOACHIM LÖW: I’m definitely not afraid. We know Mexico from the Confed Cup, Sweden from Europe and South Korea are also not unknown. We’re looking forward to the World Cup, it will be an exciting group. Whatever group we are in, we need to progress. That is clearly our expectation. For that reason, I was pretty relaxed. Sporting wise they are very interesting opponents. We want to lay to foundations for a successful title defence in the group stages. That’s our goal. When you are world champions, other countries look to Germany to see what’s going on in Germany – especially after our Confed Cup win. You notice that when you meet colleagues. Other nations have caught up, they have strong teams and class players. It will be an exciting World Cup and we’re all looking forward to it getting started.

REINHARD GRINDEL: It’s a very interesting group with an attractive job for our team. Preparations for our first three World Cup opponents begin now for Joachim Löw and his team.
