Jena win against bottom team Herford

FF USV Jena took another important step away from the relegation zone this afternoon. The team from Thuringia celebrated a 2-0 win in a rearranged matchday 14 fixture away to Herforder SV. They are now in sixth position and have collected a total of 18 points. That means they have ten points on MSV Duisburg in the first relegation spot and are likely to achieve their main goal for the season by remaining in the top flight.

The hosts from Eastern Westphalia only gained promotion last season and are still without a win this season after losing eleven games in a row. Two points from 12 games see them far behind at the bottom of the table.

Herford looked to be better team in the opening stages, but they conceded nevertheless. Jena were awarded a penalty from a handball just before the break. Carolin Schiewe stepped up to put her side ahead. Jena dominated the second half and ten minutes after restart Amber Hearn doubled the lead. A few minutes before the final whistle, Lara Rahel Keller had a great opportunity to add another, but her shot hit the bar.
