Huth called up for Laudehr

Simone Laudehr will miss the rest of the 2016 Olympic Games due to the ankle ligament injury she picked up in Germany’s opening match against Zimbabwe. Turbine Potsdam’s Svenja Huth, who travelled to Brazil as a standby player, has been called up to the squad to replace the FC Bayern München midfielder.

Germany head coach Silvia Neid commented: “We have intensively treated Simone but it hasn’t worked. She has made a lot of progress with her recovery in the past days but she isn’t totally free of complaints and we don’t want to take any risks with her health.”

The women’s national team will play China in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Football Tournament on Friday (21:00 CEST) in Salvador.
