HSV head coach Gisdol: “We have to get a result”

Can a cup game kickstart HSV's season? After an eight game winless streak in the Bundesliga, Hamburger SV go into tonight’s DFB Cup game against Drittliga side Hallescher FC with a lot of hope (20:45 CEST). “Each and every game is a new opportunity, both for each individual player and the team as a whole,” explained HSV head coach, Markus Gidsol. “We want to make the most of this opportunity on Tuesday and come out with a successful result. We have to get a positive result.”

However, Hallescher FC will provide a stern test for HSV. In the Drittliga, the club lie in mid-table, just six points behind leaders MSV Duisburg. Hallescher have already overcome a higher ranked club, knocking out Zweitliga side 1. FC Kaiserlautern 4-3 in the first round. Should Hallescher FC overcome HSV tonight, it will be the club’s biggest cup victory in history.

Hamburger SV have, however, managed to score in each of their last 17 cup games. Their last DFB Cup tie without a goal was in 2005, when they lost 1-0 to FC Bayern München in the last 16.
