Hosts England a "strong team with high individual quality"

The Germany U20s national team will be hoping for a second win in their second game when they face hosts England this evening in Huddersfield (20:00 CEST). "England are a top nation with a strong team and a lot of individual quality," said Germany head coach Guido Streichsbier, whose team beat the USA 1-0 in their opener in Leigh. "We need to push ourselves to our limit in order to get something from the game."

Newcomer in the U20s side, Philipp Ochs, was the goal scorer against the Americans. The Hoffenheim player converted from the penalty spot to wrap up all three points with his first goal at this age group. But it was the collective work at the back that impressed Streichsbier: “We didn’t give away any chances – that’s solid.” The coach also praised the his side’s “top mentality”, that needs to be shown against England.

Preparations for the U20s World Cup 2017

A total of 14 members of the 22-man squad had no experience at U20s level. Despite that, there is a good chemistry in the team given that a large group of the player played together in the U19s this summer at the European Championship in Germany, where a fifth place finish ensured qualification to the U20s World Cup 2017 in South Korea (20th May to 11th June).
