Heidenheim and Darmstadt win on matchday 13

There were two games in the second-division on Saturday. FC St. Pauli hosted 1. FC Heidenheim, whilst SV Darmstadt faced RB Leipzig.

St. Pauli drop into the relegation zone as a result of their 3-0 home defeat to Heidenheim. The visitors hadn’t won an away game all season and went into the game without a win in four. The victory sees Frank Schmidt’s side jump into fifth place, only six points off top spot despite their recent form. The visitors started strongly and had plenty of chances to take the lead before eventually managing to do so in the 26th minute thanks to Florian Niederlechner. Their lead was doubled five minutes later by the same player. The scoring was completed seven minutes into the second-half when Robert Leipertz hit the back of the net to send the away fans into pure ecstasy.

An early goal settled the game between Darmstadt and RB Leipzig. The victory sees Darmstadt jump into second place in the table, just three points behind leaders Ingolstadt, although the early pacesetters do have a game in hand – they host 1. FC Union Berlin on Sunday. The defeat sees Leipzig drop to sixth in the league. Darmstadt were the better side throughout the game and took the lead just five minutes into the game thanks to Stroh-Engel’s goal.
