Hector extends Köln contract

Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln have been boosted by the news that two of their stalwarts, Germany international Jonas Hector and midfielder Leonardo Bittencourt, have extended their contracts with the club until 2021. The news was made public by sporting director Jörg Schmadtke at Saturday’s season-opening event.

“I enjoy playing for this team and feel at home here,” said 26-year-old Hector, who added that “signing a new deal here was a logical step.” Bittencourt, who has played 22 times for the Germany U21 side stated that “I feel great here and want to help the club develop. It was an easy decision for me to make.”

Head coach Peter Stöger was delighted with the news: “Jonas has developed well here. He has worked incredibly hard and is one of the best players in the division as well as a key member of the national side. Leo showed a great deal of potential in his first year here too. We’re happy that they’ve committed themselves to the club.”

Hector has made 132 competitive appearances for the club to date (4 goals) and has received 20 international caps (1 goal). Bittencourt has featured 30 times for the Cologne side, scoring three times in the process.
