Hecking steps down as Hannover-coach

Dieter Hecking has stepped down as the coach of Bundesliga-club Hannover 96. As the club confirmed on Wednesday, the 44 year old offered his resignation to club-officials Martin Kind and Jörg Schmadtke.

Hecking had been the coach in Hannover since September 2006. The team started the season with a loss in Berlin against Hertha BSC and a draw at home against promoted team Mainz 05. Hannover was also kicked out of the first round of DFB-Pokal by fourth division team Eintracht Trier.
