Hannover out at Trier - FC Bayern put on hold for 51 minutes

While record champions Bayern München needed 51 minutes to open the score in their first round match of the DFB Cup at sixth-league minnows SpVgg Neckarelz and finally had to concede a goal, before they won 3-1 (0-0) in front of 30.017 fans at Sinsheim, Hannover 96 were the second Bundesliga team to be eliminated with 1-3 at Eintracht Trier. The Fourth-league club had the better of the match, even though they were 0-1 down at half-time.

In other Sunday games Cup winners Werder Bremen cruised to a 5-0 (3-0) at newly promoted Second Bundesliga club Union Berlin, while Eintracht Frankfurt won the Hessian derby at third-league rival Kickers Offenbach 3-0 (0-0). VfL Bochum did struggle at Sportfreunde Lotte from League four (1-0) and 1899 Hoffenheim struck twice at FC Oberneuland (2-0).

Favorites ease through on Saturday

On Saturday 13 matches of Round 1 were played. Stuttgart went through to Round 2 with a 4-1 in Großaspach, Dortmund beat Weiden 3-1. Schalke took a 4-0 against Windeck in Köln.

This year’s DFB Cup started Friday night with a slate of six games and had the first surprise in store. While Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg won 4-1 (2-0) without problems at former Second Bundesliga side SV Wehen Wiesbaden, promoted side FSV Mainz 05 fell to fourth-league team VfB Lübeck 1-2 (1-1, 1-0) after extra-time.

Bayer Leverkusen, Cup-finalist last season, had his difficulties in Potsdam against SV Babelsberg 03, but managed a 1-0 (0-0)-victory, thanks to a goal by Swiss international Eren Derdiyok (67th).

The first round concluded Monday with the 7-4 (a. pen.) victory of Hamburg in Düsseldorf.
