Hamburger SV lost ground in their battle for a place in European competition by drawing 0-0 at home against lowly Hannover 96 in Sunday's late match of Bundesliga round 29. Before reigning champions VfL Wolfsburg had reduced the gap to one point with a 4-0 victory over 1899 Hoffenheim.
On Saturday Bayern München took back the league lead from Schalke 04 by beating their rival in Gelsenkirchen 2-1 (2-1). Franck Ribery and Thomas Müller scored the goals for Germany's record champion. Kevin Kuranyi's goal couldn't prevent Schalke's defeat.
Third-placed Bayer Leverkusen lost 2-3 (1-1) at Eintracht Frankfurt and now have to fear for 3rd spot as Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 (2-0) against Werder Bremen and are only one point behind Leverkusen. Last-placed Hertha BSC Berlin won 3-0 (2-0) at 1. FC Köln.
