Großkreutz out for rest of the season

VfB Stuttgart will have to do without the services of World Champion Kevin Großkreutz for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old defensive all-rounder suffered a muscular injury in his right thigh during VfB Stuttgart’s 3-3 draw at FC Ingolstadt on matchday 26. Großkreutz will be out of action between six to eight weeks. “It’s very unfortunate news for us as well as for Kevin,” said Stuttgart coach Jürgen Kramny.

The former Dortmund player completed the full 90 minutes despite the injury since Stuttgart had already made three substitutions. “He wasn’t able to take another single step,” reported Kramny, who praised Großkreutz’ fighting mentality. The Germany international had only joined Stuttgart during the winter and immediately earned himself a regular starting spot in the team.

“Kevin integrated himself perfectly right from the start and thanks to his passionate attitude on the pitch, he was immediately able to help us,” emphasised Kramny.
