After pulling out of Germany U21’s European qualifier against the Faroe Islands at the last minute, FC Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka has returned to his club to continue his recovery and will not be part of Horst Hrubesch’s squad to face Russia on Tuesday evening.
The 21-year-old picked up a knock on his right foot in the final Bundesliga match before the international break, and after discussions with Schalke, Hrubesch decided to protect Goretzka and allow him ample time to make a full recovery.
