Mario Gomez bagged his 19th goal of the season in Besiktas‘ 2-0 win over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. The Germany international scored in the 76th minute of the match to fire Besiktas to the top of the table. Olcay Sahan added a second goal in the 86th minute.
Gomez created a new club record with his goal for the team from Istanbul. Never before has a foreign player scored more frequently for the side in a season than the German striker. He is also currently leading the race for the golden boot and is three goals clear of Samuel Eto’o (Antalyaspor/16) in second place.
Besiktas are currently on 60 points after 25 games, one point ahead of city rivals Fenerbahce. World Champion Lukas Podolski and Galatasaray are fifth.
