Goeßling and Maier out of Brazil match

VfL Wolfsburg’s Lena Goeßling and Leonie Maier, who plays for FC Bayern München, have pulled out of the Germany squad for the upcoming friendly against Brazil in Fürth (8th April, 18:00 CEST) with injuries. Goeßling has damaged a nerve in her back and Maier has torn a muscle fibre. Silvia Neid has called up Anna Blässe (VfL Wolfsburg) as a replacement.

The game against Brazil is an important test ahead of this summer’s World Cup, which takes place in Canada in June and July. Both teams also met in the Algarve Cup recently; Germany won 3-1.

Preparation for the tournament begins in earnest on 18th May; the players will travel to Canada on 31st May. Their opening fixture in the competition is against the Ivory Coast (7th June, 22:00 CEST, Ottawa). They then face Norway (11th June, 22:00 CEST, Ottawa) and Thailand (15th June, 22:00 CEST, Winnipeg).
