Gladbach hoping to turn it around

“I think we’ll win 2-0,” said Granit Xhaka ahead of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Europa League last 32 second leg against Seilla (19:00 CET). The Spanish side won the first leg 1-0, so Borussia need to turn it around. Xhaka wasn’t willing to predict the goalscorers, however.

Poor finishing has been a frequent problem this year. Lucien Favre’s side have scored only four goals in six games since the winter break. Max Kruse hasn’t scored this year.

Martin Stranzl wasn’t as strong as Xhaka when it came to making predictions. “First of all we need to score and if it remains goalless from there everything will be decided from the spot,” said the defender. Favre has said that his team will play “intelligently, at a high tempo but patiently.”

Max Eberl went on to say: “We only need one goal, so we don’t need to take any risks, or the situation will get worse. We’ll have to be patient.” The sporting director went on to speak about the importance of the fans: “We’re hoping to make it a night that no one will ever forget in front of our own supporters.”

The statistics look good for Borussia. They have progressed to the next round of European competition, despite having lost the first leg, six times. Sevilla are yet to win away in the competition this season and conceded four goals against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Eberl was impressed with the Spaniards last week: “They were more efficient on the day and made the most of their chances.”
