Gladbach hand FC Bayern first Bundesliga defeat

Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended their impressive run and at the same time ended Bayern's unbeaten run by claiming a 3-1 home victory against the record champions on Bundesliga matchday 15. Gladbach are now third and followed by Hertha in fourth, who earned a 2-1 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. FSV Mainz 05 are now unbeaten in their last four games, having claimed a 3-1 victory at Hamburger SV. FC Augsburg are able to exit the relegation zone following their 1-0 win at 1. FC Köln, while TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are no longer the bottom side thanks to a 1-1 draw at FC Ingolstadt. VfB Stuttgart are currently in last place, but will have an opportunity to change that tomorrow when they host SV Werder Bremen (15:30 CEST).

FC Bayern enjoyed the better start to the match in Gladbach and went close to taking the lead when Kingsley Coman struck the post after 25 minutes. The hosts emerged with a lot of energy in the second half and were clinical with their chances. Oscar Wendt scored the opener ten minutes after the restart, before a two quick-fire goals from Lars Stindl and Fabian Johnson sent the Gladbach supporters into pure ecstasy. The only positive aspect that the table toppers will be able to take from this game is the return of Franck Ribery, who promptly scored a goal after he was brought on in the 75th minute. For Gladbach, it was their tenth league game under manager André Schubert without a defeat. For Bayern on the other hand, it was the first Bundesliga defeat since May 16th earlier this year (a 2-1 defeat in Freiburg).

Mainz upset HSV

Hertha struck early on against Bayer 04 Leverkusen and took the lead through Vladimir Darida after just seven minutes. Leverkusen's chances of a comeback worsened when Sebastian Boenisch was sent off in the 17th minute. But despite this handicap Leverkusen equalised through Javier Hernandez shortly before the half-hour mark. John Anthony Brooks restored Hertha's lead in the second half, with Leverkusen unable to stage a second comeback.

Jairo Samperio scored the artistic opener for Mainz in Hamburg after 16 minutes and added a second goal to his tally shortly after the break following an assist by Yunus Malli. Uth earns Hoffenheim a point

The game between Köln and Augsburg was a balanced affair with the hosts recording the first clear opportunity in the 58th minute, but Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz prevailed against Anthony Modeste from the spot. Six minutes later the visitors took the lead, as Raul Bobadilla scored the only goal of the match to lift Markus Weinzierl's men into 15th place.

Ingolstadt took the lead from Roger's direct free kick goal shortly after the hour-mark, but Mark Uth scored late in stoppage time to earn Hoffenheim a point.
