Gladbach equal club record with win, SCF and Paderborn also victorious

Borussia Mönchengladbach won the top of the table six-pointer this afternoon, in what was arguably the headline game of Sunday’s Bundesliga action on matchday 10. The Foals entertained TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the battle of the undefeated sides and ran out 3-1 winners. SC Paderborn won by the same scoreline against Hertha BSC. Meanwhile, SC Freiburg picked up their first three points of this Bundesliga campaign with a 1-0 away victory against 1. FC Kӧln.

Gladbach triumph in top of the table clash

Gladbach secured a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim, equalling a club record set more than 30 years ago by going 17 games unbeaten in all competitions. Both sides went into the match unbeaten and level on points, with just goal difference separating them in third and fourth place. And it was the home side who opened the scoring with Andre Hahn volleying home Patrick Herrmann’s cross. Frenchman Anthony Modeste then equalised for the guests, but Hahn then turned provider, assisting Herrmann to restore the Foals’ advantage before the interval. Herrmann added another after the break to round off a fine individual and team performance, which sees Borussia draw level on points with second-placed VfL Wolfsburg, both with 20 points to their name.

SC Paderborn continue to impress at home

SC Paderborn keep on defying the odds in their first season in the German top flight and continued their good home form with a 3-1 win against Hertha Berlin. The hosts opened the scoring in the first half through Marvin Bakalorz but Salomon Kalou equalised for Hertha before the break. Goals from Marcel N’Djeng and Elias Kachunga in the second-half secured an important win for the hosts, which sees them move up to a stunning seventh place in the Bundesliga, while Hertha remain without an away win this term in 13th place.

SCF with first win of the season

Freiburg finally won their first game of the 2014/15 Bundesliga campaign after securing a 1-0 away victory over 1. FC Kӧln. There was little to choose between the two sides after a cagey first half, with high-scoring games somewhat a rare occurrence when the Billy Goats are involved. The only goal of the game came after the break when SCF were awarded a penalty when Köln defender Mergim Mavraj was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. Vladimir Darida despatched the resulting spot kick and the guests stood firm in the remaining minutes to secure a long overdue Bundesliga win.
