Ginter is your “Man of the Match” for Olympic final

The final of the Olympic football tournament in the legendary Maracana stadium was an exciting and dramatic encounter. Horst Hrubesch’s team suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat on penalties after the game had finished 1-1 following extra time. Nevertheless, the team wrote history, as they were the first German team to win silver for football at the Olympic Games. The pride of winning a medal meant that the disappointment from the final loss was quickly forgotten.

One thing was clear to all the fans following the final in Rio de Janeiro; that Matthias Ginter was the Man of the Match after the Borussia Dortmund defender received 54.8 percent of the users’ votes, placing him above captain Max Meyer (13.5 percent) and Lukas Klostermann (11.6 percent).

It was the second presentation ceremony at the Maracana for 22-year-old Ginter, after winning the World Cup there with the senior team in 2014 and taking home silver from Rio 2016 now. They would be two unforgettable moments in any footballer’s career.

DFB.de and the Fan Club would like to thank all of the fans who took part.
