Germany U21s beat Slovakia 3-0

Stefan Kuntz got off to an excellent start as DFB-Team U21 head coach on Friday night. His new side inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Slovakia courtesy of goals from Grischa Prömel, Niklas Stark and Levin Öztunali. They return to action on Tuesday when they face Finland in a U21 European Championship qualifier (18:00 CEST).

“I’m happy with how the team performed. We did what we set out today. Considering I’ve not spent much time with the lads so far, they did extremely well,” explained Kuntz.

Prömel scores early on

Germany got off to a fast start thanks to Prömel, who was also on duty at the Olympics. He bundled the ball home at the far post after Maximilian Arnold’s corner was flicked on by Kevin Akpoguma. Chances kept coming the way of the DFB-Team but they didn’t extend their lead until the 40th minute, when Niklas Stark headed home.

Both sides made numerous changes at the break, which meant that the game lost its tempo somewhat. Despite this Maximilian Philipp (48’), Nadiem Amiri (60’), Mahmoud Dahoud (66’) and Jeremy Dudziak (85’) missed presentable opportunities before Öztunali wrapped up the triumph in injury time.
