Germany U21 Geis moves to Schalke 04

Schalke 04 have signed Germany U21 player Johannes Geis from fellow Bundesliga rivals 1. FSV Mainz 05. The midfielder’s contract with the Royal Blues runs until 30th June 2019. Schalke managed to secure the 21-year-old’s signature ahead of other clubs, including Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund.

“We are delighted that one of the most coveted young players has chosen to join our club,” said sporting director Horst Heldt about Geis, who is currently at the Euro U21s in the Czech Republic for Germany and played in all of Mainz’s competitive fixtures last year.

“Johannes possesses many great qualities; his dangerous set pieces, his passing game and his ability to find a man in space make him one of the Bundesliga’s best central defensive midfielders,” added Heldt.

Geis has made 75 appearances in the Bundesliga (6 goals), as well as nine appearances in the 2. Bundesliga. He has also played in two DFB Cup matches (1 goal) and two Europa League qualifiers.
