Germany U19s beat Ireland 4-0

The Germany U19 national team has completed the first of two qualification rounds for the UEFA U19 Championships. Frank Kramer’s side overcame the Ireland U19 team 4-0 and sealed their place as group winners. Midfielder Niklas Schmidt stole the show for the Germans, scoring a hat-trick. The Elite Phase of qualifying now awaits the Germany team in the spring of next year (20th March to 28th March 2017). The eight teams for the final tournament in the summer of 2017, will be decided in this qualification round.

The Germany team had already secured their qualification for the Elite Phase before the match against Ireland, following their emphatic 5-0 win over Gibraltar and the 3-2 defeat of Albania. Schmidt’s hat-trick against the Irish sealed the win for the junior team. The Werder Bremen player scored his first goal from the penalty spot (24’), before adding another two his tally after the break (52’, 55’). Jonas Busam rounded off the victory with a fourth in the 65th minutes. Jake Doyle-Hayes received a red for Ireland (59’) just before Germany scored their fourth.
