Germany lose against Turkey in Kiew at Adrion's debut

New coach Rainer Adrion saw a 3-1 loss of the German U 21 against Turkey in the semi-finals of the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Memorial in Kiev/Ucraine.

Tevfik Köse, Aydim Yilmaz and Deniz Yilmaz scored for the Turkish side, Kevin Schindler for Germany. The DFB-team meets Iran in the match for third place in Borodjanak today (2 pm). The final between host nation Ukraine and Turkey is scheduled for 3 pm in Kiev.

"As one might guess, I had different plans for my debut here with the U 21", said Rainer Adrion, who had left the VfB Stuttgart to start his tenure with the freshly crowned European champions. "We showed little effort during the first half, which was disconcerting. We fell behind because of penalties, which could have been avoided. I feel very upset about the first half. I saw improvement after the break, but we have much work to do."

Adrion had nominated five debutants to this first game following the EURO final: Philipp Bargfrede, Matthias Langkamp, Thomas Müller, Nils Petersen and Lars Stindl.
