Germany internationals reach Women's Champions League quarter-final

Germany international Anja Mittag and her FC Rosengård side have qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The Swedish champions recorded a 2-0 second-leg-win in the round of 16 encounter with Danish champions Fortuna Hjörring thanks to goals from five time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta (44’ pen) and Germany midfielder Katrin Schmidt (77’).

Keeper Kathrin Längert also made the starting XI alongside Mittag and Schmidt for the visitors, who had won the first-leg 2-1.

Other Germany players to qualify for the next round include Josephine Henning, Fatmire Alushi and Annike Krahn, who play for Paris St. Germain. Alushi scored the winner against fellow title challengers Olympique Lyon on Wednesday, having also scored in the 1-1 first-leg draw. . Henning was in the starting line-up, whilst Krahn and Ann-Katrin Berger were unused substitutes. Former Germany international Linda Bresonik sat out the game with an injury.

Defending champions VfL Wolfsburg and German Cup winner 1. FFC Frankfurt also booked their quarter-final tickets on Wednesday. The draw for the next round will be on November 19th; the games will take place on the 21st/22nd and 28th/29th of March 2015. The semi-finals will be on the 18th/19th and 25th/26th of April and the final is on May 14th in Berlin’s Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark.
