Germany internationals in Champions League action

World-Cup winners go head-to-head in Dortmund

World Cup winner Toni Kroos was on the winning side in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid. Goals from Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo saw the reigning European champions leave Dortmund with all three points. The Bundesliga side, with Germany internationals Julian Weigl, Mahmoud Dahoud and Mario Götze playing today, have now recorded their second 3-1 defeat in two Champions League group games.

Meanwhile, in Istanbul, Timo Werner’s Leipzig had an equally disappointing evening. The Bundesliga runners up from the previous season never got a foothold in their 2-0 defeat against Besiktas. Germany’s in-form striker, Werner, was forced into an early substitution. Fortunately, the injury doesn’t appear to be anything serious.

The Premier League’s Germany internationals impress on European stage

Manchester City now have two wins in two in Group F, with Leroy Sane once again putting in a strong performance on the wing. Kevin de Bruyne put his team ahead early in the second half, and the Germany international won a penalty some 20 minutes later, which Sergio Aguero failed to convert. Ilkay Gündogan also returned from his short injury break in the 81st minute. City eventually sealed the deal through Raheem Sterling in the last minute.

Emre Can also gave a good account of himself for Liverpool, but the Reds only left Moscow with a point. Fernando’s 23rd minute free kick was soon cancelled out by Philippe Coutinho, and the new deadlock could not be broken by either side. Emre Can played for the whole 90 minutes, instigating promising attacks for Liverpool time and again throughout the game.
