The defending European champions celebrated a 4-0 (1-0) win over archrival Norway on Monday in Tampere. It was Germany’s first appearance at the European championships in Finland. The team of coach Silvia Neid faces France on Thursday and Iceland on Sunday in their next two matches of the group stage.
In front of 7,500 fans in Tampere, cool and calm Linda Bresonik (33.) converted a penalty kick following a foul on forward Birgit Prinz to give the DFB-team the lead over Norway. It was Bresonik’s fifth international goal. All other German goals were scored late in the game. Fatmire Bajramaj (90), Anja Mittag (90 +2) and Bajramaj (90 + 4) again completed an impressive performance, which also served as a perfect advertisement for the 2011 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
At the last European championship four years ago, Germany had also started their title run with a win over Norway. Germany now enjoys a string of 21 undefeated games at the European championships.
