German U20 women claim World Cup bronze medal

The German U 20 national team claimed the bronze medal at the FIFA World Cup in Chile after a 5-3 victory over France at the Estadio Muncipal de La Florida. Marie Pollman scored a first-half hat-trick to help the pre-match favourites to take their place on the podium.

In the semifinal Germany lost 1-0 to the USA. Following the loss, Meinert said: "The effort was there, but the USA took the initiative from the opening kickoff. Right now, we could not be more disappointed, but we also have to get ready for the game against France."

The US-girls scored following a perfect center pass by Nikki Washington, which Sydney Leroux converted to give the USA the 1-0 lead (21.).
