German U 21 national team beat Belgium 2-1

The German U 21 team has won an international friendly against the Belgian Olympics team at the Stadion Oberwerth in Koblenz 2-1 (2-0). Dennis Aogo opened the score from the spot in the 25th minute, after striker Ashkan Dejagah had been brought down in the area. Belgian defender Laurent Ciman made it 2-0 with an own-goal shortly before halftime (42.). Jeanvion Yulu-Matondo (86.) scored the consolation goal for the guests.

Striker Aaron Hunt from Werder Bremen and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer of Schalke 04 missed the friendly due to injuries and were replaced by Tobias Sippel (1. FC Kaiserslautern) and Kevin Schindler (Werder Bremen).

The game against Belgium served as a final trial-run before Germany hosts Luxemburg in their next qualifiying game for the European Championships, to be played on 25 March 2008 in Wiesbaden. Currently, Germany ranks second in Group 9. The ten first-place teams and the four strongest second-place finishers will compete in a playoff to determine the field for the European Championships in Sweden. The host-nation is automatically seated for the tournament.
