The Fan Club Nationalmannschaft powered by Coca-Cola has reintroduced the Man of the Match award for U21 games for the first time since last summer. The fans voted in their thousands after last week’s 4-1 victory over the Faroe Islands and Köln’s Yannick Gerhardt took the plaudits.
The 22-year-old picked up 28.3% of the votes, finishing ahead of Leroy Sané (17.1%) and Mahmoud Dahoud (13.2%), who came off the bench in the second half of the game to make his debut for Horst Hrubesch’s U21 side.
