Freiburg the favourites in duel with Sandhausen

SC Freiburg are the clear favourites going into their DFB Cup second round tie with SV Sandhausen tonight (18:30 CEST). The newly promoted Bundesliga outfit have won all four of their home league games so far this season, conceding just two goals and among others, beating Champions League team Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1. Sandhausen, on the other hand, are winless on the road and lost both of their 2. Bundesliga games against Freiburg last season (4-1 and 2-0).

Taking into account last season’s results as well, Freiburg’s home record looks even more impressive. Including their four Bundesliga home wins this season, Christian Streich’s side have now recorded ten home wins in a row. Their last home defeat was more than eight months ago. Fortuna Düsseldorf were the last team to win in Breisgau, when they overcame the home side 2-1 on the 14th February.

The game is Sandhausen’s fourth DFB Cup game against Bundesliga opposition. They have so far lost all three of their previous cup fixtures against top league teams. In the opening round game, Sandhausen beat Drittliga side SC Paderborn 2-1, while Freiburg recorded a comfortable 4-0 win over Regionalliga side SV Babelsberg.
