Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Potsdam all pick up wins

VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FFC Frankfurt and Turbine Potsdam remained hot on the heels of league leaders Bayern München after comfortable victories in the Women’s Bundesliga. Wolfsburg were 4-0 winners over SGS Essen, while Potsdam celebrated a 2-0 triumph against SC Sand. Frankfurt thrashed TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 7-1, while top of the table Bayern won 7-0 against Herforder SV on Saturday.

FF USV Jena were unable to end their negative run of results though. Daniel Kraus’s women could only manage a 1-1 draw away to MSV Duisburg and are now six games without a win. Former Wolfsburg player Ivonne Hartmann gave the guests the lead, before new Canadian signing Emilie Fillion equalised for the hosts.

Bayer Leverkusen claimed a surprisingly comfortable win. B04 were 5-1 winners of SC Freiburg in their home Haberland Stadium, collecting their second win of this campaign. Goalkeeper Lisa Schmitz put in a top performance but was unable to keep a second clean sheet. Rebecca Knaak, Francesca Weber (2), Lisa Schwab and Isabelle Linden got on the scoresheet for Bayer, after Freiburg’s Jobina Lah was given her marching orders after 16 minutes. Leverkusen’s Carolin Simon also missed a second-half spot-kick, while Lena Petermann added a consolation goal for the guests late on.

Frankfurt dominant - Wolfsburg also celebrate comfortable victory

Frankfurt dominated their match in Sinsheim from the first whistle and were already three goals to the good after little more than 15 minutes. Dzsenifer Marozsán gave the guests the lead after just five minutes. Célia Šašić and Kerstin Garefrekes added further goals, before TSG reduced the deficit through Kirstin Demann a few minutes later. Frankfurt showed no signs of slowing though and Svenja Huth, Garefekes and Kozue Andō (2) all netted for the guests to make the final score 7-1.

Wolfsburg made a good start in their match and were out of sight early on. Vanessa Bernauer and Germany international Lena Goeßling gave VfL a 2-0 lead within four minutes. The hosts remained on top and increased their lead through two goals from Martina Müller.

Potsdam had Felicitas Rauch to thank for their win. The 18-year-old netted both goals, her first in the Bundesliga.
