Fourth-division Astoria want to cause an upset

This is how real DFB Cup stories are made. After beating 2. Bundesliga side VfL Bochum 4-3 in the first round, FC Astoria Walldorf want to cause another cup upset against Bundesliga team SV Darmstadt 98 on Wednesday at 18:30 CEST. Even though FC Astoria Walldorf are a fourth-division side, they have still been training every day for the upcoming cup tie.

The club are excited for the match against SV Darmstadt. “We are really fired up for the game. We have nothing to lose,” said sporting director and former player Roland Dickgießer. “Everyone here knows that the DFB Cup is just something extra for us.”

Despite the difference between the clubs, FC Astoria Walldorf believe they have a chance. “We want to have fun. We want to do everything we are capable of to trouble Darmstadt,” said Benjamin Hofmann, brother of Borussia Mönchengladbach player Jonas. We want to make the most of the chance to make ourselves known in Germany again. I’m convinced we can do that.”
