FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 in Germany

The Confederations Cup 2005 will take place in Germany, which is also host of the World Cup 2006. This the FIFA executive committee decided during its meeting in Yokohama on Friday. The place of the Confederations Cup 2003 will be fixed only at the next FIFA-Exko meeting on September 23rd.

The candidates are France/Switzerland as co-hosts, South Africa, the USA and Australia. The tournament will take place form June 18th till June 29th, 2003 which means that the footballs clubs must release their players at June 11th. The winners of the respective continental championships will take part, that is European champion France, Asia champion Japan, Africa champion Cameroon, South America champion Colombia and the USA as champion of the Mid-/North America zone.

The Oceania Football Confederation has yet to contest its respresentative of the Confederations Cup 2003. Automatically the World champion will participate as also the host of the tournament. [hg]
