FC Bayern to face FC Porto in quarter finals

FC Bayern München can be happy with their quarterfinal draw. The German record champions will meet FC Porto in the last eight of the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s team will play the first leg away on the 15th April, before the home leg the following week on 21st April. The semi finals will take place on 5/6th and 12/13th May. The final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin is on the 6th June.

“We’re happy with the draw”, said German international Thomas Müller. “It could have been worse. We are FC Bayern and it’s been our goal to reach the final since the start of the season. We’re convinced of our own ability”. Captain Philipp Lahm emphasised, “There are definitely harder teams. One thing is clear – we want to be in the semi final”. Germany’s goal keeper Manuel Neuer added, “we can be happy and naturally want to progress to the semi final”.

The record between the two sides in European competitions is fairly positive, with two wins, two draws and one defeat in FC Bayern’s favour. The one defeat, however, was painful - Bayern lost 2-1 to Porto in Vienna in the 1987 European Cup final.
