FC Bayern and Leipzig march on

FC Augsburg suffered their second defeat at the hands of FC Bayern München in the span of just four days, as they lost 3-1 at home to the record champions on Bundesliga matchday 9, following their cup loss earlier in the week. Newly promoted RB Leipzig remain Bayern’s closest pursuers after a 2-0 win at SV Darmstadt 98. Bayer 04 Leverkusen ended their negative run with a 2-1 win at VfL Wolfsburg. FC Ingolstadt are still without a win this season following a 2-0 defeat to 1. FSV Mainz 05. SC Freiburg continued their impressive display with a 3-1 win at Werder Bremen.

After two straight defeats, Leverkusen were able to bounce back in Wolfsburg and earn a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Admir Mehmedi and Tin Jedvaj. Wolfsburg, who are still without a win from their five home games, took the lead through Germany U21 international Maximilian Arnold.

Lewandowski with a brace for Bayern

FC Bayern were once again able to rely on their top scorer Robert Lewandowski, who struck twice following brilliant assists by Arjen Robben. Lewandowski even returned the favour and teed-up the Dutchmen to score the third. Ja-Cheol Koo scored a consolation goal for Augsburg in the second half.

Leipzig won their fourth consecutive Bundesliga match after the 2-0 triumph at Darmstadt. Substitute Marcel Sabitzer scored the opener midway through the second half and got on the scoresheet again in the 80th minute to make it 2-0. Leipzig trail Bayern by just two points at the top of the league.

Ingolstadt still without a win

Mainz took the lead from Yunus Malli’s converted penalty after 51 minutes. Levin Öztunali secured the three points with five minutes left on the clock. FC Ingolstadt’s Max Christiansen was sent off in the second half following a second bookable offense.

Freiburg arrived in Bremen having failed to collect a single point on the road but a strike by Maximilian Philipp and a converted penalty from Vincenzo Grifo paved the way to their first away-win of the season. Bremen closed the gap in the second half when Santiago Garcia scored, but Amir Abrashi restored the two-goal lead quickly as Freiburg claimed a 3-1 win.
