FC Augsburg aim to spoil Bayern's party

Weekday 15 of the 2014/15 Bundesliga campaign is on us and some crucial matches at either end of the table await us on the penultimate weekend of German top-flight football in 2014.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Friday night game with the hosts looking to leapfrog their opponents, with just one point separating the sides in the Bundesliga table. Eintracht will go into the game full of confidence following their enthralling 5-2 victory of Werder Bremen on the last matchday, while TSG will want to bounce back from last Friday’s defeat to Dortmund.

Bayern München could wrap up the Autumn Championship with a win over Bavarian rivals FC Augsburg in what is arguably the headline Saturday game in the top flight, with third-place FCA playing host to the record champions. FC Schalke 04, in fifth position, will want to build on their impressive form of late under manager Roberto Di Matteo, as they go in search of a fourth successive Bundesliga win at home to Köln, who have found the going tough at home in recent weeks.

Hertha BSC Berlin play host to Borussia Dortmund with both sides in desperate need for points following dismal starts to the campaign. Hannover 96 will look to continue their impressive defensive displays on the road recently when they travel to Werder Bremen, who are languishing second from bottom. Freiburg host Hamburger SV with the home side without a win in their last league outings and will want to show a reply against a patchy HSV team. VfB Stuttgart travel to 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the evening kick-off on Saturday and FSV front man Shinji Okazaki will surely take centre stage, as the former VfB man aims to continue his early season goalscoring form against his former employers. VfB Stuttgart currently sit rock bottom of the German top tier and could leap a massive five places in the Bundesliga should they win and results go their way.

A mouth-watering clash in the BayArena on Sunday sees Bayer 04 Leverkusen play host to Borussia Mönchengladbach, with the Foals coming off the back off their 3-0 victory of FC Zurich that saw them top their UEFA Europa League group and subsequently progress to the knockout stages. The hosts will want to build upon their battling 0-0 draw away to Benfica in midweek that allowed them to qualify for the final 16 of the UEFA Champions League. SC Paderborn travel to VfL Wolfsburg in the late afternoon kick-off on Sunday and the Wolves couldn’t be in better form at present. Andre Breitenreiter’s side will have a tough job on their hands if they are to take anything from Wolfsburg.
