Favre wins on debut with Mönchengladbach

Bayer Leverkusen defended second place in the Bundesliga by beating VfB Stuttgart 4-2 on Sunday. The guests on the other hand stay in grave danger of relegation and are four points behind 15th place.

Borussia Mönchengladbach beat Schalke 04 2-1 in the first match with new coach Lucien Favre. Gladbach stay on the bottom of the table.

Borussia Dortmund went 13-points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table on Saturday after their 2-0 win at home to St Pauli as striker Lucas Barrios got amongst the goals.

Bayern München took a 3-1 win at Mainz 05 in the late kick off and climbed up to second place. German internationals Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller and Mario Gomez marked the goals für the Bavarians, Sami Allagui hit the goal for Mainz.

Hanover are back up to third in the table after their 3-0 win over Kaiserslautern as former Germany striker Jan Schlaudraff netted twice.

Hamburg coach Armin Veh left Dutch hot-shot Ruud van Nistelrooy on the bench for his side's 4-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday. Freiburg's Senegal striker Papiss Demba Cisse netted his 16th goal in 21 league games this season with a superb strike as he held off several defenders before stabbing the ball home on 70 minutes to seal a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Cologne continue to pick up points and showed their fighting spirit with a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim. Nürnberg are up to eighth in the Bundesliga after their impressive 3-0 victory, their fourth straight win, against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday night.

On Sunday, bottom side Borussia Moenchengladbach host Schalke 04, who drew 1-1 with Valencia in Spain in the last 16 of the Champions League in midweek.
