England match is a sell-out: Crowd of 55,000 expected

The Germany women’s senior squad finish 2014 on 23rd November with a friendly against England in Wembley Stadium (16:00 CET). Ticket sales for the match have been halted – the figure currently stands at 55,000 and will not be added to. Engineering works on the London Underground on the day of the match have prompted the English Football Association to take tickets off sale, even though Wembley can seat up to 90,000 people.

The match will see a record attendance for a women’s match between two European countries. The current record for a game in Europe stands at 73, 680 – this was achieved in the Berlin Olympic Stadium in the first match of the 2011 World Cup; a game which saw Germany beat Canada 2-1. The second best attendance was set two years later when Germany played Japan ahead of the 2013 European Championship in Sweden. The game was hosted in the Allianz Arena in front of 46,104 people.
