Elite round for Under 17 Euro in Germany drawn

The groups for the qualification elite round for the UEFA European Under 17 Championship in Germany were drawn. Defending champion Spain host Czech Republic, Belgium and Kazakhstan in one of the seven qualifying tournaments. That was the result of the drawing in Nyon, Switzerland. Host Germany are already qualified for the final tournament.

Seven group winners qualify for final tournament

Only the winners of the seven groups of the elite round qualify for the final tournament that will be played from May, 6 - 18th 2009 in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The matches of the elite round have to be played as so-called mini-tournaments in one of the countries represented. The teams face each other once in their group.

Group 1: Poland, Greece, Slovenia, Switzerland
Group 2: Spain, Czech Republic, Belgium, Kazakhstan
Group 3: Croatia, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Azerbaijan
Group 4: Denmark, France, Norway, Belarus
Group 5: Austria, Scotland, Italy, Georgia
Group 6: Finland, Turkey, Romania, Wales
Group 7: Portugal, Serbia, England, Hungary

The seven mini-tournaments will be played from March 2nd - 31st 2009. The teams in bold letters each host their tournament.
