Eintracht finally grab a win

The Eagles ended their woeful recent run of form in Saturday’s evening match in the Bundesliga, however, the result means that Thomas Schaaf’s Hannover 96 remain adrift at the bottom of the pile. It looks increasingly likely that the Reds will be playing football in the second division next season.

The Hesse-based side have looked bereft of confidence in recent weeks but they were impressive in Niko Kovac’s first home match as head coach. The winner came after just 33 minutes of the match. Änis Ben-Hatira picked up the ball in a dangerous area and his venomous shot flew into the back of the net, for what was his first goal in a Frankfurt shirt. Despite the victory, SGE find themselves in an automatic relegation spot for the first time this season, however, they are level on points with both 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Augsburg (27 each), so all is not lost. They could have won more convincingly but a combination of wasteful finishing, resolute defending and strong goalkeeper from Ron-Robert Zieler kept the score down.

As previously mentioned, it’s seemingly a matter of when and not if Hannover are relegated. They have lost 12 of their last 13 games and are 10 points adrift of the relegation play-off spot. Time is running out for Schaaf’s men – things need to change sooner rather than later if they’re to stand any chance of retaining their Bundesliga status at the end of the current campaign.
