Eilts named as German under-21 coach

Former Werder Bremen midfielder Dieter Eilts was confirmed Friday as the new coach of the German under-21 side. German national coach Jurgen Klinsmann played alongside Eilts in the victorious Euro 96 team and was thought to be instrumental in persuading the German Football Federation (DFB) to choose Eilts.

"It is a great honour to take over a team of talented players that could be part of the national team for the 2006 World Cup," beamed Eilts. Eilts, 39, replaces Ulli Stielike who will now look after the German under-20 and under-19 teams.
