Draxler seals win on league debut

World Cup winner Julian Draxler is enjoying a dream start to life in France. Having scored in the cup last week, Draxler fired the winning goal on his Ligue 1 debut as Paris St. Germain celebrated a 1-0 win over Stade Renne. The 23-year-old, who joined Paris from VfL Wolfsburg, was fed the ball in the 39th minute, before slotting home exceptionally from the edge of the box.

Germany international Kevin Trapp kept a clean sheet in the win, as PSG took their season tally to 42 points from 20 games. AS Monaco (42 points) and OGC Nice (44 points) remain ahead of the reigning champions, however.

Fellow international teammates Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi romped to victory in the Premier League. Arsène Wenger’s men ran out 4-0 winners to leapfrog Emre Can’s Liverpool and Leroy Sané and Ilkay Gündogan’s Manchester City into third place. Both sides are in action tomorrow, however.

It took 37 minutes for the Gunners to break the deadlock in Swansea through in-form Olivier Giroud. Two own goals in the second half put the game out of sight, before Alexis Sanchez added a fourth with 15 to go. Özil played 80 minutes before being substituted.

Marc-André ter Stegen also enjoyed a resounding victory with Spanish giants Barcelona. The Catalan side thrashed Las Palmas 5-0 to close the gap on league leaders Real Madrid to just two points, though Toni Kroos’ side have two games in hand. Luis Suarez (14’ & 57’), Lionel Messi (52’), Arda Turan (59’) and Aleix Vidal (80’) grabbed the goals.
