Dortmund will qualify with a victory

Despite being on the brink of a Champions League record, Borussia Dortmund find themselves languishing in a Bundesliga relegation place. As well as being their 200th European match in, they could create history tomorrow night. The team from Westphalia could win four successive Champions League matches in a row for the first time. Victory over Turkish side Galatasaray on Tuesday night (20:45 CET) would also see BVB qualify for the knock-out stage of this year’s competition.

After losing 2-1 in the Allianz-Arena against Bayern München on Saturday, Borussia slipped to 17th place in the Bundesliga table. They have made their worst start to a season in their 48 years in the top flight.”The game against Galatasaray gives us another opportunity to show that we are able to play better,” said central defender Neven Subotic.

Perfect record in the Champions League

Dortmund have picked up nine points from three matches so far this season; scoring nine and conceding none in the process. This record is in stark contrast to their Bundesliga form. Their 4-0 victory in Istanbul raised hopes of going through the group stage with a perfect record. Their final two matches in Group D, against Arsenal FC (26th November) and RSC Anderlecht (9th December) will hopefully only have the chance to top the group riding on them.

"I’m certain that we will reach the round of 16 and be in the draw on the 15th December,” said Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in an interview with kicker: “We need to concentrate fully in both games and pick up points right til the finish.” After all, Galatasaray will be aiming to avenge the defeat in Turkey.

The BVB fans are hoping to progress in this season’s competition for as long as possible, because as it stands they will be watching next year’s tournament on TV.

Hummels is unavailable for Dortmund

It’s difficult to be too excited for the game against Galatsaray according to Jürgen Klopp, because the situation facing the club is “crazy” and “brutally hard.” To add insult to injury, Mats Hummels – who has helped stabilise a defence which was leaking goals in previous weeks – picked up an ankle injury in Munich and will be out of action for three weeks. “Without Mats it will be tough, because he is an important defender,” said BVB Sporting Director Michael Zorc.

Sokratis is likely to take his place in the back four. Neven Subotic is still getting back to full fitness, having been out with two torn ligaments in his knee, which saw him miss the majority of last season. Germany international, and World Cup winner, Matthias Ginter is likely to be given another chance to prove himself in Europe’s premier club competition. Klopp has some difficult decisions to make ahead of the game.
