Dortmund take advantage of München's win

Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of their first German league title since 2002 after beating Freiburg 3-0 on Sunday to open an eight-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen who lost 5-1 at Bayern München. With four games to go, Dortmund are in pole-position to win the title and have secured an automatic Champions League place in for next season.

Mario Götze, 18, opened the scoring on 23 minutes when he blasted Marcel Schmelzer's cross into the back of the net. And lone striker Robert Lewandowski added a second on 43 minutes before midfielder Kevin Grosskreutz made sure the hosts secured three points as he tapped into an empty net on 78 minutes as Dortmund ripped the defence apart.

Earlier, Bayern Munich tore up Leverkusen's credentials as title contenders as Germany striker Mario Gomez bagged a first-half hat-trick. Simon Rolfes (own goal) and Franck Ribery scored as well, Eren Derdyok added Leverkusen's goal.

Round 30 of the Bundesliga started on Friday with FSV Mainz 05 dreaming of a possible return to european football after a 1-0 win against rock-bottom Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Hamburger SV and Hannover 96 tied 0-0 on Saturday. Jan Polak gave VfL Wolfsburg a last-minute 2-2-draw against FC St. Pauli. VfB Stuttgart made an important win to stay in Bundesliga with 3-1 against 1. FC Köln. Roberto Firmino scored his first goal in Bundesliga to give 1899 Hoffenheim a win against Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Nürnberg dream after the 2-0 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern of the Europe League. The last game on Saturday between Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 ended 1-1. Sandro Wagner scored for Werder, Edu of S04 equalized.
