Die Mannschaft to kick off 2017 against England in Dortmund

The Germany national team’s first fixture in 2017 will be another classic grudge match against England in Dortmund on 22nd March. The DFB agreed this date in a meeting in Frankfurt am Main on Friday. The friendly encounter will take place four days before the World Cup qualifying match against Azerbaijan in Baku, on 26th March, as Joachim Löw’s side look to take that next step towards the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

DFB President Reinhard Grindel said: “The fans can look forward to a very exciting and traditional game to start the international calendar. Dortmund has a fantastic atmosphere and will be the perfect stage for the match against England. What is more, the rich history that this fixture has will be on display for the supporters to enjoy at the Wembley exhibition in the German Football Museum in Dortmund.”

General manager Oliver Bierhoff added: “Games against England are always extra special. Matches like these always bring back a lot of memories for the fans, and will be sure to build the excitement surrounding this friendly.”
