DFB U 17 secure semifinal with second win

A sound 4-0 (2-0) victory against England in their second group match of the European Championship secured Germany's U 17 a place in the tournament's semifinals. The team of coach Marco Pezzaiuoli qaulified as well for the World Championship, which will take place in Nigeria this fall.

In front of 8500 spectators in Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld in Jena Robert Labus headed home a corner by Christopher Buchtmann after 13 minutes to make it 1-0. After a row of opportunities Lennart Thy doubled the lead four minutes before halftime (36th).

In the second half Kevin Scheidhauer (56th) made it three, just to let Mario Götze finish the match off after a fine dribbling in the 74th minute.

"We started nervously, but the first goal was the decisive one. I'm happy about reaching the semifinals, but we will keep on thinking from one match to the next one", Pezzaiuoli said afterwards.

In a "final" for first place in Group B the German team will meet the Netherlands on Tuesday (5.45 pm) again in Jena. "Oranje" won their second match of the tournament 2-1 against Turkey and are on second place with four points. England (1) and Turkey (0) follow. The two first teams of the group qualify for the semis, which will take place on May 15. The final is scheduled for May 18 in Magdeburg.
