DFB-Team honoured at 33rd Sports Press Ball

Yet more honours for the German World Cup heroes of Brazil: Acting on behalf of the entire national team, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Benedikt Höwedes, former assistant coach/current DFB sporting director Hansi Flick and goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke accepted the award for “Sportler mit Herz” (athletes with heart) at the 33rd Sports Press Ball in Frankfurt am Main. DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach and general secretary Helmut Sandrock were also part of the World Champions’ delegation at the Old Opera House.

The event was hosted by Michael Steinbrecher, who asked Schweinsteiger what his best memories from the World Cup are. “There are a lot,” said the DFB-Team captain. “For example, lifting the trophy or hearing about the reaction in Germany at the hotel. Our goal was to make people happy.” Some of the best moments from the World Cup were also played on a big screen before the award was presented.

The preparations for Germany’s next task, the EURO 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar in Nuremberg (Friday, 14th November at 20:45 CET), begin on Tuesday. Four days after that, the World Champions will play defending European Champions Spain in a friendly (Tuesday, 18th November at 20:45 CET).
