DFB-Team head to Montreal

After reaching the quarter finals of the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the DFB-Team left Ottawa for Montreal on Sunday. The players who were on duty in the 4-1 win over Sweden took part in a regenerative bike ride the morning after the game. Everyone else trained as usual.

“It continued to feel good the day after,” said Celia Šašić. “We enjoyed it and are happy with our performance.” It was a tough game physically for the players. “Obviously you have some aches and pains after a game like that, so sleeping isn’t the easiest,” explained goalscorer Anja Mittag.

After lunch the team boarded the bus for a two hour trip to Montreal. “It’s good that we don’t have to travel too far for our next match,” said Šašić. The team arrived at their hotel at roughly 15:30 local time.

Head coach Silvia Neid, assistant coach Ulrike Ballweg, goalkeeper coach Michael Fuchs and general manager Doris Fitschen were then otherwise engaged. They headed to the city’s stadium to watch France vs. South Korea – the rest of the team watched on in the hotel. The French won the game 3-0 and they will face Germany in the next round.

“France are a technically brilliant team and they have great players in every position,” explained Neid. “The teams are similar and won’t be giving anything away.” The match takes place this Friday at 16:00 local time (22:00 CEST).
