DFB extend contract with ARD and ZDF

The German Football Association (DFB) have extended their contract with both ARD and ZDF until the middle of 2018, meaning viewers can watch both the men’s and women’s national teams, as well as games from the 3. Liga and the Allianz women’s Bundesliga on the two channels. They came out on top in the bidding process for the audio-visual media rights and have been handed the contract by rights agency SportA.

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach said: “We’re excited that our long-standing and trustworthy partnership with SportA has been extended for a further two years. By extending the deal, it means that the presence of both national teams, as well as the best DFB leagues, is guaranteed on public television.” DFB General Secretary Helmut Sandrock added: “SportA received a highly attractive package and we, on the other hand, have the guarantee that our teams and competitions will be watched by a wide audience.”

Germany’s qualifiers for both EURO 2016 and the World Cup in 2018 are centrally marketed by UEFA and will be shown on private channel RTL. The DFB Cup will be shown on both ARD and Sky. Eurosport will broadcast the top match in the Allianz women’s Bundesliga each week, as well as certain games played by the DFB’s youth teams.
